How do I get custom fabric made?

Please feel free to reach out at any time! I am more than happy to discuss your needs and wants to give you a realistic timeline, options, and prices. I love talking to people about my art, and will happily answer any questions you have. Even if you are a fiber artist yourself, looking for tips, tricks, or solutions to problems, please feel free to reach out to me!

What are your prices?

My prices are determined by the size of the cloth, the materials the cloth is made from, and the dye work that goes in to the cloth.

For a commercially dyed cotton warp that is 32" wide on the loom (after finishing it will typically be between 28" and 30" wide) with a commercially dyed weft of cotton or cotton/linen blend, the price will be $85 per yard (finished) requested. Please request a quote for dye work, fancy or rare fibers, special weave patterns, or woven inlays.

For a scarf warp that is 20" wide on the loom (between 16 and 18" wide finished) that is again, commercially dyed cotton, prices will start at $60 per yard requested. For reference, scarves are typically as long as a person is tall, and while I can make your scarf any length you would like, I usually makes scarves around a yard and a half long. Again, prices will be adjusted according to dye work, fiber, and weave complexity, so please request a quote early in the process so I can make sure I have the appropriate materials on hand when I weave your piece.

Can I see what you have available in person?

Absolutely! I love showing off my wares! Please don't hesitate to reach out and schedule a time we can meet up. I will happily bring everything and talk your ear off about fibers, patterns, dye, and everything in between! I will never consider time spent talking about my art as wasted time, so please don't feel obligated to purchase anything!

I also try to schedule art and craft shows regularly to show off my art and demonstrate how I turn my sheep's wool into usable yarn. Please keep an eye on my homepage to keep up with scheduled activities.

Due to covid, I will not be doing indoor shows until my children are vaccinated, so this winter may be slow.

What should I expect in the process of making my fabric?

The amazing thing about having custom fabric made is you can have as much, or as little say in the process as you would like! I have been weaving for seven years and will give you realistic opinions and advice on what may work for your needs and desires.

I know that not everybody can picture a finished product without seeing it though, so if all you can say is, "I want a soft scarf, and my favorite color is purple." I will do my absolute best to make you what you want. I will ask questions and make sure you're aware of options available to you, but if at any point anything is overwhelming, I am happy to just make you a soft purple scarf!

If you have a very specific vision of what you need, that is great too! I will ask questions and make suggestions to make sure your fabric realistically turns out as close to your dreams as possible. I am happy to work together with you to answer questions, clarify issues, and give you a realistic timeline throughout the entire process. Please never feel bad about asking questions! My time is never wasted when I'm working with people and talking about my art!

How long does this take?

Every project is different, every project has it's challenges, and I am a human with three boys who are 11 years old, 7 years old, and 9 months old. I do my best to give a projected timeline at the beginning of every project and stick to it. I normally have two or three projects planned while working on whatever is on my loom, and each project on the loom usually takes at least a month to finish.

If you need custom fabric next week, I will probably not be able to help you. If you are willing to work with what I have on the loom, or an upcoming warp, I may be able to squeeze your fabric in.

I will always do my absolute best to get projects done in a timely manner, however most commissions will take at least a month for completion.

Can I ask for handspun yarn, or provide my own yarn?

Absolutely! If you would like me to handspin a weft for you, please inquire at the beginning of our work on your piece. Spinning takes quite a bit of time, so I try not to make other people who have commissioned pieces on a warp wait for me to spin for other people. But with enough warning, I can allow the the time required to spin. I have spun dog hair before, if you would like your pet memorialized into fabric, please reach out to me.

If you spin your own yarn and would like it woven into fabric, I absolutely adore weaving with handspun yarn and will do everything I can to treat your creation with the utmost care it deserves!

I am able to get a very wide variety of fibers commercially, so if you have an interest in yarn made from anything from pineapple to musk ox, I will do my best to source it as economically and ethically as I can.

Is there a warranty on your work?

Every single piece I sell goes out in to the world with my best work - I stand by my work. If you ever have any questions, comments, or concerns with your woven work, PLEASE do not hesitate to contact me.

I put my heart and soul into my work and am happy to fix any issues that might arise.

That being said, I put my heart and soul into my work. I want my work to be used, loved, and appreciated - but also to be treated with care. Life happens, but please know I recommend handwashing all of my handwoven fabric.

What kind, or size of fabric do you make?

I'm currently able to make fabric with clean edges up to 40 inches wide, and up to 30 yards long.

I'm currently learning a new technique to weave double width, up to 80" wide and hope to offer a blanket option soon.

Do you make clothes?

I've made some rudimentary clothing from my handwoven fabric, but I am not a seamstress by profession. I recommend taking your custom fabric to a professional to ensure the highest quality, and longest living finished garment is yours to enjoy.
