Flushing Fabrics

My name is Sophie, and over the last several years I have been enthralled by fiber arts. I started weaving fabric, as well as dyeing yarn, then decided I should make my own yarn, too, so I started spinning. Of course, the next logical step was to get sheep and go through the entire process by myself!

To see and to be a part of the process from beginning to end is awe inspiring and eye opening. The amount of care, work, and time that goes into fabric production has truly opened my eyes to the absolute need of more sustainable fabric manufacturing as well as higher quality fabrics that, with proper care, will last and can be passed down to future generations. The waste of the fashion industry is a leading contributor to global climate change.

My goal at Flushing Fabrics is to bring the process of creating sustainable, heirloom quality fabric to the main street of our small town. I want to be a local, accessible vendor to help bring fiber art to Flushing, and beyond! I want to help people see the value of fiber art, and to create custom fabrics for people from sustainable sources. Education is a passion of mine, and I hope to be able to spread my knowledge of weaving, dyeing, spinning, fiber processing, and animal care with all of you!

If you are interested in one-of-a-kind, custom fabric, please do not hesitate to reach out and I will be happy to discuss your needs and dreams. Pricing will depend on materials used and weave structure, however prices for custom cotton fabric start at $85 per yard. If you are interested in customizing fabric that is currently being woven on my loom, I cannot guarantee that current projects are not completely accounted for, but I will do my absolute best to accommodate you, and I encourage you to keep an eye open for future projects you might be interested in. If you would like to purchase fabrics, scarves, shawls, throws, placemats, or other items I have made in the past, I will do my best to attend local art and craft shows and have everything available there.
